First of all, congratulations on your study place and welcome to Biopsi!
You are now one of the first-year students—or fuksi! If you are wondering about the purpose and activities of the subject association, you can read more on the "For Members" page and in the drop-down menu there. Since a lot happens during your first year, we’ve put together a checklist of things to get before your studies begin, as well as things and events to keep in mind!
- First, remember to accept your study place and pay the membership fee for TREY (the Student Union of Tampere University)! At the same time, you will register as present for the academic year.
- To make living arrangements comfortable, you’ll need a place to stay; student housing in Tampere is provided by TOAS and POAS. First-year studies take place on both the Kauppi and Hervanta campuses, so it’s worth keeping this in mind when applying for housing.
- Student card! You can order the card from the TREY website; you’ll need it to get around campus, access student discounts, and borrow books.
- Get a bus pass. Traveling between campuses (and getting around in general) in Tampere is easiest by bus. Here’s a tip: an annual pass for young people works out cheaper than buying seven monthly student passes!
- Make sure to check out the materials sent to you and the *fuksiläystäke* (freshman info sheet)! (also found further down in the text) There, you’ll find plenty of useful material and the schedule for the first few weeks.
- If you have any questions, please contact the tutor coordinator! You can find their contact details on the Board page.
- Don’t forget to register for your courses! Instructions for this can be found in the freshers' guide.
- Make sure to follow Biopsi on social media!

Here is the link to the freshers' guide, where you’ll get a first look at your new tutors and find lots of important information about starting your studies. The guide answers many questions, so it’s definitely worth a read!
See you in the autumn!
